Andrew Costa is a health services researcher and epidemiologist specializing in seniors’ health, long-term care, and integrated models of care. His research program uses real-world data, artificial intelligence, and pragmatic clinical trials to improve outcomes for older adults. He has published nearly 200 peer-reviewed papers and is recognized among the top 2% of scientists worldwide. His work has shaped major health policies in Canada and internationally, including COVID-19 vaccination policy in long-term care.
Dr. Costa serves as Research Director at the St. Joseph’s Health System Centre for Integrated Care and Associate Scientific Director of the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging. He also leads OnSPARK, Canada’s largest AI-enabled long-term care data platform.

“My job is to find patterns and data around how individual patients and organizations come together to deliver care. And in those data, I find patterns to understand whether or not that's being done as best it can be or whether there's areas for improvement. And where we find areas for improvement, we develop tools that take that information that we're collecting and bring it back as close as we can to the point of care to improve the way care is delivered. “
